Atkinson – Betty May (Staples) Hodgkins, 81, passed away March 3, 2025, at Northern Light Mayo Hospital surrounded by her beloved family, after a long illness. Betty was born September 3, 1943, in Farmington, the youngest of three daughters, to Bertha “Goldie” (Wagner) and Harold Russell Staples. They moved to Atkinson in November of 1967 where they raised their four daughters on a small family farm. It was where Betty learned Bible truths and became a keen student of the Bible. Betty was baptized June 3, 1973 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was a true Christian, eager to share her Bible knowledge with all she met. She instilled in her children a deep love for Jehovah. Betty was an excellent wife, mother, and grandmother. Betty is survived by her husband of 64 years, Vernon; her sister, Sister Mary Columba of Biddeford; her four daughters, Debra Hodgkins, of Atkinson, Karen Hodgkins and husband, John, of Clinton, Cynthia Elliott, of Corinna, and Brenda Standing and husband, Josiah, of Blackstone, MA; four grandchildren, Dani Lee Porter and partner, Dave of Dover-Foxcroft, Ryan Porter of Dover-Foxcroft, Nikki Porter, of Augusta, and Kirk Crowell, of Atkinson; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless dear friends.
