Obituary of Shirley (Leathers) Fiore
Bangor, ME and Lawrence, MA - It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our mother Shirley (Leathers) Fiore on Sunday, March 2, 2025. She was born July 16, 1931, to Omar and Guila Leathers she was the first of five children. During a humble childhood she overcame adversity from surviving Polio, earning money at an early age picking potatoes and cleaning houses to helping raise her four siblings. Experiences that gave her a focused determination and a strong work ethic. As a teenager, she met our father, John Fiore while waitressing at a local diner. Shortly after, they married on June 5, 1949, and began a 54 year life together in Lawrence, Ma.
A journey that included owning their own theater business, working at AT&T, and having four children along the way; two daughters, Belinda (Larry) Van Tassell of Shirley, Ma., and Diane (Fran) Gendron of Ayer, Ma., and two sons, John Fiore II of Ayer, Ma., and David (Jill) Fiore of Bangor, Me. Their favorite song was Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” and they definitely lived life “Their Way”.
Although she was predeceased by her husband, parents, and one brother, Robert Leathers, she is survived by her children; nine grandchildren, Kerri, Kyle, Fran, Jonathan, Joshua, Tony, Nick, Kimberly and Mike; thirteen great-grandchildren; sister, Gloria (Gardiner) Webber of Dexter, Me.; brother, Paul Leathers (Dot) of Auburn, Me.; sister, Linda Huff of Winthrop, Me.; and many nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to her daughter, Belinda, who provided our mother a loving, caring home during these last years as her health diminished but allowed her to pass with family by her side. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to your local animal shelter in her name. Interment in the family lot in Pine Grove Cemetery, Dover-Foxcroft, will be in late spring or early summer with a celebration of life held for immediate family.
