Obituary of Pollyanna (Stafford) Sherman
Greenville – Pollyanna (Stafford) Sherman, 63, passed away with her husband and sister holding her on February 23, 2025, at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. She was born November 4, 1961, in Greenville, the daughter of Harold E. and Anna B. (Canders) Stafford.
Polly owned and operated Polly’s Daycare for 34 years. She became a second mother to dozens of local children, and she loved each of them. In addition, she owned and operated The Kids Clothes Basket, a resale store, for the past 12 years. Prior to opening her daycare, she worked for 10 years as a CNA at the CA Dean Nursing Home. She loved traveling with her great friend, Barbara. Polly loved shopping for her family, and her Christmas shopping was usually done by July! She was PTO President at GCS where for 15 years she orchestrated the annual Candy Cane Caper which allowed students affordable “Christmas shopping” for their family members. Polly loved planning any kind of party from birthdays, wedding or baby showers, Superbowl, or family gatherings; there would be more food than could possibly ever be eaten. Polly lost her father at age 12 and her mother at age 23 which left her and her brother, Jeff, to raise their 12-year-old sister, Natalie. Polly has always been a caregiver who put everyone else’s needs in front of her own.
Polly is survived by her husband, Eric of Greenville; daughter, Tricia Tolman and her husband, Brendon, and their newborn baby, Arlo, of Greenville; brothers, Frank Stafford and his wife, Roxanna of Westbrook, and Jeffrey Stafford and his wife, Kathy, of Greenville Junction; sister, Natalie Stafford and her significant other, Ron LeClair of Greenville; special nephews, Kevin Stafford of Westbrook, and Jason Canders of Florida; special niece, Becky Gunnells and her husband, Tony of Monmouth; “second daughter”, Michaella Greenwood of Greenville; lifelong friends, Barbara, Marlene, Jeri-Ann, KB, Sue R., Carla, Katie, Mindy, Ginger, Sue P., Paige, and Shelley; plus many other friends, extended family members, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, and brother, Fredrick Canders.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Northern Light CA Dean Hospital where she received excellent, loving care, Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, and Beacon Hospice for their compassionate care for Polly.
Family and friends are invited to visit 5-7PM Friday, March 7, 2025, at the Lary Funeral Home Greenville Chapel located in the Masonic Hall, 281 Pritham Avenue. A memorial service will be held 1PM Saturday, March 8, 2025, in the Oakes Auditorium at the Greenville School, 130 Pritham Avenue.
