Obituary of Margaret “Peggy” C. Witham

Brownville - Margaret C. “Peggy” Witham, 82, passed away at her residence surrounded by loved ones on February 15th, 2025. Peggy was born July 7th, 1942, to Roy and Ann Burgoyne of Brownville. Peggy was a graduate of Penquis Valley High School. Peggy was a homemaker and loved spending time with her family. She touched the lives of many providing childcare for family and friends. Peggy was a kind soul who always had an open ear, an open door, and the coffee on. Later in life Peggy clerked in area stores and the deli at Milo Farmers Union. Peggy was an avid reader who loved her romance novels. Peggy also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, crossword puzzles, and playing cards with “the ladies” at the community room. She loved feeding and watching the birds and other wildlife outside her window. Peggy shared a special bond with her sisters, known to family and friends as “the four fearless frogs”. The “Burgoyne Girls” always looked forward to their “sister vacations” and spending time together. Peggy is survived by her children, son, Jerald of Brownville, son, Jon and his life partner, Rodney of Bradford, daughter, Jenise (Witham) McSorley and her husband, William, and son, Jeffrey and his wife, Kelli of Brownville; her grandsons, Jesse, Shawn, and Jeffrey Jr.; her great-granddaughter, Adrianna; her sister, Olivia (Burgoyne) Bell of Dexter; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Chester of Brownville; a grandson, Joshua; son, James of Brownville;a sister, Lorraine (Burgoyne) Thibeault of MA; and sister, Janet (Burgoyne) Bryer of CT. Many thanks to the care and guidance of Community Health and Counseling Services New Hope Hospice, With special thanks toa beloved caregiver Anne Weston of Brownville. A celebration of life will be held at the Brownville Jct. Legion, March 8th at 1:00 p.m. Per her wishes there will be a graveside service in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lafayette Family Cancer Institute, 33 Whiting Hill Rd, Brewer, ME 04412. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
