Obituary of Harold "Sonny" I. Grinnell
Milo – Harold “Sonny” I. Grinnell, 92, passed away February 16, 2025, at Hibbard Nursing Home in Dover-Foxcroft. He was born September 11, 1932, in Milo, the son of Charles A. and Edith L. (Newman) Grinnell.
Sonny graduated from Milo High School, Class of 1950. He joined the United States Army and served from 1952-1954 and was stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the B&A Railroad and retired after 43 years as the Budget Clerk Administrator. Always community minded, Sonny filled many roles for the town of Milo; he served as Constable, as a Selectman for 6 years, on the Budget Committee, and on the Milo Fire Department. He was a proud member of the Civil Defense Committee, and the Park Street United Methodist Church and Joseph P. Chaisson American Legion Post 41, both in Milo. Sonny enjoyed camp with his family on Schoodic Lake for over 40 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Jean (King) Grinnell; daughter, Lynn Gerrish and her husband, Ronald of Brownville; son, Michael Grinnell and his wife, Linda of Milo; five grandchildren, Lance Gerrish and his wife, Candi, Alicia Harmon and her husband, Adam, Brett Gerrish and his wife, Aliza, Dustin Grinnell and his wife, Dalanie, and Lucas Grinnell and his wife, Emma; nine great-grandchildren, Preston, Gavyn, Ava, Aidan, Julian, Bennett, Lydia, Carmen, and Makenzie; sister, Eleanor Cyr; and several nieces, nephews, and close friends. In addition to his parents, Sonny was predeceased by his brother, Charles Grinnell, and sisters, Charlene Robichaud, Helen Beal, and Marion Grinnell.
Services will be private. Burial will be in the family lot in the Evergreen Cemetery, Milo. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
