Obituary of Jennifer Jeanne Martell

Bangor and Guilford - Jennifer Jeanne Martell, 73, passed away at her home in Bangor with family by her side on February 14, 2025, after a 3 year battle with breast cancer. She was born in Dover-Foxcroft, July 4, 1951, the daughter of Fred W. Martell Sr. and Elizabeth (Jones) Martell. Jen graduated from Piscataquis Community High School in Guilford in 1969 and earned a BS degree in Education at the University of Maine - Fort Kent. She, also, earned her MS degree from Pepperdine University in Psychology. She enlisted in the Marine Corp in 1973 and raised from rank of Private to 2nd Lieutenant. At Camp Lejeune, Jen counseled soldiers how to utilize the GI Bill to further their education. She was in the very first group of women to participate in combat training with men in Quantico, VA. After the Marine Corp she worked at McDonnell Douglass in California as a Quality Control Inspector before returning to Maine to reside. Jen lettered in high school and college and loved playing and watching sports. Aside from following her nieces and nephews’ sports, she was a huge fan of all the Boston teams, UMaine and most recently, Duke. Jen was predeceased by her parents; brother, Ronald Martell Sr. (Ashlie Ann); and brother in-law, Steve Lemar. She is survived by sister, Josephine Lemar of Dexter; brothers, Fred W. Jr of Bridgton, Charles (Laurie) and Peter (Lisa) of Guilford; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. A special thanks to Gentiva Hospice, the VA, Eastern Area on Aging and her health care providers. At her request there will be no visiting hours. She does request a friend or family member not put off having a mammogram. A graveside service will be held at the Lawn Cemetery in Guilford at a later date.
