Obituary of Diana "Dolly" M. Vainio

Monson – Diana “Dolly” M. (King) Vainio, wife of the late Ronald L. Vainio, and beloved Mom, Mim, and Grammie, passed away peacefully February 15, 2025, at Northern Light CA Dean Hospital in Greenville, with family by her side, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter and adventure. She was born February 7, 1944, in Greenville, the daughter of Louis J. Sr. and Pauline M. (Costigan) King. Dolly graduated from Greenville High School, Class of 1962, and spent several years in classes at the University of Maine, Augusta. She married Ronald Vainio in 1963, spending almost 60 years together. She lived and worked in Beverly, Massachusetts for four years before returning to Maine where she was the Accounts Payable Manager at Interface Inc. for many years. Ronnie and Dolly enjoyed their home in Parkman for 38 years before moving to their cottage on Lake Hebron in Monson. Dolly lived life to the fullest, always anticipating the next gathering, celebration, or special time with her cherished family. Whether it was shopping, going out to eat, wading in the lake, sitting by a fire sipping wine, riding on the pontoon boat, snowmobiling, playing cards, or enjoying the company of loved ones and friends, Dolly was always ready to create new memories. Dolly’s love for her children and grandchildren knew no bounds; she spoiled them with affection, wisdom, and warmth, always making them feel special and appreciated. Her gentle nature and comforting words made everyone feel better with her thoughtful advice—reminding them not to stress over the small things, as everything would work out as it should. An avid reader, lover of puzzles and crosswords, and a skilled crocheter, Dolly found joy in life's simple pleasures. She was a passionate fan of football, especially the New England Patriots, and she found peace in sitting at her table at the cottage on Lake Hebron. While sipping a glass of wine, she would gaze out at the lake, watching boats in the summer and snowmobiles in the winter. The binoculars she kept handy allowed her to get a close-up view of the action on the water or ice. Dolly is survived by her son, Darin Vainio and his fiancée, Valerie Weston of Monson; daughter, Trisha Moulton and her husband, Scott of Abbot; three grandsons, Jacob Vainio and his wife, Molly of Guilford, Brian and Ethan Moulton of Abbot; sister, Bonnie DuBien and her husband, Lawrence of Greenville; sister-in-law, Terry Deane and her husband, Brad of Guilford; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ronnie; parents, Louis and Pauline King; brothers, Louis King Jr., Omar King, and Charles King; and sisters, Rita Jarvis, Betty Kelly, Carol Ward, and Sophie Harris. Though she will be deeply missed, Dolly is now where she longed to be—reunited “with Dad”, her love forever. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know her. Dolly’s kind heart was reflected in her unwavering support for community causes, as she generously contributed to fundraisers that she felt were deserving of help. To honor Dolly’s memory, donations can be made to the Narrow Gauge Riders Snowmobile Club, P.O. Box 296, Monson, ME 04464, of which her grandson, Jacob, is the trailmaster. A celebration of life will be held on March 15, 2025, at 1:00PM at Ronnie and Dolly’s little piece of heaven, the cottage on Lake Hebron. The family requests guests snowmobile up or dress warmly for an afternoon of cooking hot dogs, eating snacks, having a drink and jamming to music out in front of the cottage. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Shirley Mills Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
