Obituary of Marilyn E. Doble
Brewer and Rockland - Marilyn E. Doble, formerly of Brewer and Rockland, passed away on February 9, 2025, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Augusta. Born in Summit, New Jersey, in 1932, she turned 93 just days before her passing.
Marilyn grew up in Rockaway, New Jersey, and graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in Home Economics, an education that she put to good use every day while raising four kids on a budget.
She married Malcolm - better known as Mickey - in 1954. They lived in a series of Maine towns: LaGrange, Stonington, Bridgton, Rockland, Yarmouth, and Brewer before retiring in Bowerbank.
For more than 50 years, Marilyn and Mickey hosted generations of family and friends at their camp on Sebec Lake. She loved birds and kept the feeder full at Sebec Lake summers and at home year round.
Marilyn sang in church choirs throughout her life and was an active member of the community. An avid knitter, she kept the extended family in wool “Grammie socks” which came in handy in cold Maine winters.
She was predeceased by Mickey in 2014 and their son, Tom in 1999. She is survived by her children, Mike Doble of Woodbridge, Virginia; Bob Doble of Bowdoinham; and Lynne Doble of Rockland; along with 7 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
The family appreciates the care she received from the staff at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta. A celebration of her life will be held in a warm month later this year. Donations in her memory can be sent to First United Methodist Church, 40 South Main St, Brewer, Maine 04412. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
