Obituary of Irmadel E. Goodell
Dover-Foxcroft - Irmadel (Del) F. Goodell, 88, a resident of Otterbein Granville, Ohio since 2014, died on 5 November 2024, of natural causes. Del was born in Dover-Foxcroft, ME and graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1954. She received a degree in nursing from the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital School of Nursing in 1957 and a BS degree from Simmons College in 1959. While studying nursing in Boston, MA, she met Dr. Robert (Bob) A. Goodell, Jr. MD of Weathersfield, CT and they were married in 1959. Del accompanied her husband on his medical residency to London, UK, where their first son was born, to Sydney, Australia and later to Boston. Del settled with her family in Williamstown, MA where she lived for twenty years, and where she and Bob raised four children. She worked as a nurse at the Pittsfield Hospital and the North Adams Visiting Nurses Association. Del was an active volunteer in the Williamstown community: she helped with school and hospital fundraising, led a Brownie troop, and hosted international students. She and her husband moved to Marshfield, MA where she worked as a visiting nurse and supervisor for the Plymouth Visiting Nurses Association. After retiring from nursing, she volunteered for the Massachusetts Audubon Society and devoted time to her vibrant vegetable and flower gardens. She will be remembered as a creative and hardworking woman who was also a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She loved nature, gardening, cooking, reading, entertaining, and travel.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her oldest son, Robert Goodell III; and her brother, Galen Flanders; and is lovingly remembered by her brother, Lendall Flanders of Dover Foxcroft, ME; her three surviving children, Jeffery (Susan) of Newbury, VT, Karen (John Hunter) of Granville, OH, and Jane Bartholomew of Santa Barbara, CA; as well as her seven grandchildren, Carter, Christopher, William, Elizabeth, Winona, Penelope, and Allison; and her nieces and nephews.
