Williamsburg Township – Gale Elaine Foulkes passed away peacefully on March 20, 2018, surrounded by family at her daughter’s home in Milo, after a long illness. She was born April 25, 1935, in Brownville Jct., to Charles and Margaret (Swan) Coburn.

 

Gale graduated from Brownville Jct. High School and then from Eastern Maine General School of Nursing in Bangor, where she attained a diploma in Registered Nursing.  She married Paul Foulkes on June 22, 1955, and they settled in Williamsburg in 1957. Gale was very family oriented and enjoyed camping, spring vacations at New Smyrna Beach, summers at Schoodic Lake, and having everyone get together for holiday meals, cookouts, and making apple cider. She enjoyed picking berries, bird watching, reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She loved to keep up on the activities of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

 

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Gerald, Duane, and Bertram; and a brother-in-law, Robert Foulkes.

 

Gale is survived by her husband of 62 years, Paul; daughter, Susan Hutton and husband, Gary, of Punta Gorda, FL; son, Lawrence Foulkes and wife, Lisa, of Brownville Jct.; and daughter, Amy Desmarais and husband, Ron, of Milo. She is also survived by her sister, Doris McAfee (Robert) of Portland; her brother, Jack Coburn (Dodie) of Brownville Jct.; sisters-in-law, Gloria Coburn of Brownville Jct., and Sue Coburn of Brownville Jct.  She was the beloved “Nana” to ten grandchildren:  Michael, Matthew, Stephanie, Alyssa, Thomas, Ryan, Roxana, Marlene, Sarah, and Adam; and to nine great-grandchildren: Susan, Laura, Lena, Charles, Lucy, Elsie, Madison, Viola, and Oleander.

 

A memorial service will be conducted 11am Monday, March 26, 2018, at the Brownville Community Church, with Rev. Elizabeth M. Coffey officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in Brownville Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Brownville Community Church, PO Box 706, Brownville, ME 04414.
