Obituary of Doris Ella Harmon

Milo – Doris “Dolly” Ella Knowles Harmon, 89, wife of the late George S. Harmon, passed away February 10, 2018, at a Lewiston nursing home. She was born March 17, 1928, in Somerville, MA, the daughter of Raymond G. and Ruth (Perkins) Knowles.  She married George Harmon on October 23, 1948, and they enjoyed 52 years of marriage.

Dolly and George owned and operated Harmon’s Texaco and Harmon’s Heating Oil in Milo for many years, where her responsibilities included the bookkeeping.  Dolly was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and godmother.  She loved cooking, knitting, sewing, and arts and crafts.  Many of her family members were grateful recipients of the quilts and afghans she made.  She especially enjoyed her cats and dogs.  Dolly was a member of the Park Street Methodist Church in Milo.

She is survived by her daughter, Jacquelyn Herbig and her husband, Bruce, of Poland, ME; her son, Gary Harmon of Milo; three grandchildren, Paige and her daughter, Natalie, of Lake View Plantation; Jonathan and wife, Marisol, of Gaithersburg, MD; and Lauren of Klamath Falls, OR.  She was predeceased by two brothers, Richard “Dick” Knowles and Raymond Arthur Knowles; and two sisters, Marjorie Bearce and Shirley Crocker.

Dolly’s family wishes to extend special thanks for the loving care she received from Hospice and the staff at St. Mary’s D’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery, Milo, in the spring. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to either P.A.W.S., 39 Clinton Street, Milo 04463 or the Park Street United Methodist Church, PO Box 116, Milo 04463.  Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home, Milo.
