Obituary of John E. Webber

Greenville  -  John E. Webber, 69, passed away on August 12, 2017, at his home in Greenville.  He was born September 4, 1947, the son of the late Ralph F. and Helen (Bartley) Webber.  John was a graduate of Greenville High School and later served his country with the U.S. Air Force.  He had worked as Postmaster in Greenville from 1989 until his retirement.

John was an active member of the Union Evangelical Church, UCC, and served on several church committees. He was a member of the Board of Directors of CA Dean Hospital from 1980 until 1997.  A member and Past Master of Columbia-Doric Lodge #0149 in Greenville, he actively supported the lodge in various capacities.  A good cook, he could often be found in the kitchen preparing suppers for the meetings.

John enjoyed working around his home on Pritham Avenue and spending time with family and friends.  He was a talented basket maker; his Black Ash Baskets can be found in many homes throughout the State and beyond.  One of his favorite places to visit was the Pike Camp on Lower Wilson Pond.

He is survived by his brother, Ralph F. Webber Jr., and wife, Ruth, and nephew, Ian; cousins, Diane Roberts, Dave Muzzy, Tony Bartley, Matt, Mark & Luke Muzzy, Bruce, Ted & Sandy Mullen and their families, as well as long-time friend, Jim Pike and the Wilson Pond gang.
