Obituary of Margaret L. Akins

Dover-Foxcroft – Margaret Lorraine Akins, 95, wife of the late John W. Akins, passed away July 18, 2017, at Hibbard Nursing Home, Dover-Foxcroft. She was born February 4, 1922, in Powell River, BC, Canada, the daughter of Lorentz R. Hembroff and Hazel M. (Davis) Hembroff.

Margaret attended and graduated from schools in Powell River. After school, she enlisted in the RCAF in Canada and served four years at Fort Nelson, Canada, where she met her future husband, John, from the American Air Force. They were married and raised three daughters at many different Air Force bases. She kept busy volunteering for the Red Cross for 40 years and knitting and crocheting for many organizations.

In 2004, she moved to Maine to be closer to her family, after remaining in New Jersey for nine years after her husband’s death.

She is survived by two daughters, Norma Diane Laurie and her husband, Bob, of Dover-Foxcroft, and Lori Myles and her husband, Buddy, of Whitehouse, TN; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, John, her daughter, Judi Woodell, her mother, her father, her step-father, John Macartney, two brothers, and their wives, Bill and May, and Roy and Ruby, as well as numerous aunts and uncles.

At Margaret’s request, there will be no services. After cremation, she wished her ashes to be spread in British Columbia as her final resting place. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. Condolences may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.
