BANGOR – Leroy "Roy" Eugene Ireland, 82, died unexpectedly at his home on May 22, 2017.  Roy was born on July 7, 1934 in Brewer, the son of Murray A. and Georgie (Hayward) Ireland.  

 

Roy was a graduate of Brewer High School and as a young man served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a munitions expert.  After leaving the service he became a professional bartender at Block Island, RI in the late 50's. Roy was also very well known in the Bangor area from his work at the Baltimore Restaurant in the 1960’s.  He later received a master electrician license, was a business owner of R&R Electric and also worked for Cianbro.  In his retirement years he worked part time for Peterbilt in Bangor. Roy was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play soccer, basketball, softball and baseball.  In the summer you could always find him at Mansfield Stadium if there was a baseball game going on.

 

Roy is survived by his sister, Bernice and brother, Donnie; 5 children, 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.  The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to close friend Mike Eber for his tremendous support over the years. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Dolly; brother, Wayne; son, Ralph; and son-in-law, Roger Lewis.

 

A private celebration of Roy's life will be held at a later date.  The family asks that memorial contributions be made be in Roy's name to American Cancer Society at https://donate.cancer.org/index or at American Cancer Society, P.O.
