Obituary of Beryl H. Dow

Please share a memory of Beryl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dover-Foxcroft – Beryl H. Dow, 100, wife of the late Malcolm S. Dow, passed away April 30, 2017, at Hibbard Nursing Home, Dover-Foxcroft.  She was born April 21, 1917, in Milo, the daughter of James and Kathleen (Franklin) Hesketh.  After graduating from Milo High School, she married Malcolm S. Dow in 1935 and she moved to Dover-Foxcroft.  Beryl was employed as a clerk in three pharmacies in Dover-Foxcroft, Perin’s Drug Store, Lanpher’s Drug Store, and Peter’s Pharmacy until her retirement at age 70.  Working at the soda fountain over the years, she connected with the students at Foxcroft Academy, listening to many tales of teenage woes.

Beryl was a former member of the Junior Cosmopolitan Club and the Order of Eastern Star. She was the recipient of the Boston Post Cane in June, 2016, as the oldest resident of Dover-Foxcroft. She lived in the same house for over 80 years and was extremely proud of her independence. Beryl recently celebrated her 100th birthday with a party for family and friends at Hibbard Nursing Home.

Beryl loved her family, near and far. She thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Summer at camp on Sebec Lake meant family and friends gathering to enjoy the lake and each other.  She loved watching the younger generations swimming and boating.

She is survived by a son, Malcolm L. Dow and his wife, Georganne, of Dexter; her grandchildren, Roy Dow of Sun Valley, CA, Timothy Dow of Dexter, Suzanne Bowden and her husband, Steve, of York; great-grandchildren, Eimile and Izaak Bowden, Taylor and Preslee Dow, and Mackenzie Dow.  She will be remembered by a very good friend, Kathy Dow.

She was predeceased by her husband; brothers, George and Wilfred; and a very special long-time friend, Bob Currie, who was an integral part of Beryl’s life and considered a member of the Dow family.

A graveside committal service at the family lot in Gray Cemetery will be held later this summer. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Piscataquis Regional YMCA, 48 Park Street, Dover-Foxcroft 04426. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Condolences and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
